Over 40 years as an accountancy professional has led me to this – Chairman and Strategic Director of our family firm. It seems (it is!) a far cry from my early days as a trainee accountant in Bridgend and my time with Deloittes in Cardiff.
During the latter part of my career I've been involved in a number of Director/Owner positions, both at Chartered Accountancy practices and also within industry. I've also served on the European and International Committees of the prestigious International Association of Practising Accounts (IAPA).
These days I concentrate on delivering specialist advice to corporate businesses, sole traders and commercial partnerships on issues such as restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, and selling.
Among a number of high profile pubic appointments, I am a Trustee of Diverse Cymru, where I advise on the financial reporting process and oversee their compliance requirements.
Away from the office I can be found on the golf course, or serving as a Deacon for Llanishen Baptist Church.
Kathryn Harris - Chartered Tax Adviser
Together with my husband, Mervyn, I founded the company in May 2011, with the ambition back then of growing a tax practice. Now that I'm the Managing Director of a firm with more than 400 clients, seems unbelievable at times.
My background is in auditing, having spent my early years with Ernst & Young, then moving to a mid – tier independent local practice for 10 years. I increasingly specialised in owner managed, multi million pound groups, becoming experienced in all aspects of company and group taxation, particularly complex tax planning for company structures, and capital gains tax planning including holdover and rollover claims.
I gradually moved into corporate tax, qualifying as a Chartered Tax Adviser in January 2005, before moving to Holingdale Pooley in Bristol, where I expanded my practice area into personal tax.
Away from life as a business owner I juggle raising a growing family with growing a better society, as a school Governor and active member of my church parish.
I believe wholeheartedly in "Small Is Beautiful" and I'm confident that Harris & Co is more than capable of giving a high quality service, with a strong and proactive tax mitigating bias – at an affordable price.
Jane Reeks - Manager
After graduating from London University with a BSC in Geography, I trained with Deloittes in Newport and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1989.
Since then I've gained a wealth of experience in financial reporting and taxation with a number of prestigious practices, mainly in South Wales.
I joined Harris & Co in June 2012 and I'm responsible for overseeing a large portfolio of clients across a wide range of industry sectors. Day to day I mainly provide advice and services concentrating on management accounts and annual financial reports.
Outside of work I'm an active member of my local scout group as an Assistant Beaver Leader, a keen table tennis player (reaching the dizzy heights of Newport 1st Division), and proud mother of two energetic young sons.
Stephen Jones - Manager
I joined Harris & Co in April 2013, where I'm responsible for all aspects of our accounts and taxation services. Before joining Harris & Co I trained with Ernst & Young before moving to an independent practice in Cardiff, where I spent 24 years specialising in the provision of accounts and taxation services for small and medium sized entities, becoming a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants in the process.
I'm particularly experienced in financial forecasting and developing bespoke models for clients. I am fully certified in SAGE accounts, and have good knowledge of other accounting software packages such as Quick Books and VT Accounts.
Vince Nolan - Director of Grants
I have thirty five years economic development experience in Wales and the UK. I started my own government financial incentives consultancy business in December 2008 having taken voluntary redundancy from Deloitte after 8 years as a Senior Manager in their UK Grants and Incentives Practice. My role was to help companies access government funding. I achieved a 100% success record in all applications in that time covering capital investment, R&D, European and Agricultural Processing schemes. Prior to joining Deloitte I was an International Project Manager at the Welsh Development Agency specialising in Foreign Direct Investment into Wales and prior to that worked for many years for the Industry Department at the Welsh Assembly within their Innovation and Investment Grant teams appraising applications for funds.
I am now involved in working with companies to help them access government funding towards their investment plans and R&D projects and have been retained by Centerprise International and Monitise PLC. I have maintained my success record since starting my own business and recently secured two major grants for Crown Foods Europe and a significant grant for The Royal Mint at Llantrisant. This latter grant marked £42m raised in grant funding for clients over the last 13 years. I am also Director of Grants at Harris & Co Consultants Limited, a Cardiff based specialist accountancy and tax consultancy.
Sue Robins – Tax and Payroll Administrator
Sue Robins joined the Harris & Co team in July 2014, bringing with her over 30 years of experience working at HMRC in Cardiff.
She is our Tax and Payroll administrator, so looks after tax returns and company payrolls, as well as making sure our growing office continues to run smoothly.
When she's not at work, she is usually busy helping her daughter to plan her wedding which will be later this year. She is also an avid rugby fan and, of course, supports Wales.
